What does the Bible say about guarding your heart and mind?
King Solomon said it best: “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life” (Proverbs 4:23).
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.
Human Heart
Jesus said in John 14:1, “Let not your heart be troubled.” This means we don't need to worry or freak out! The word heart can also refer to the intellect. Proverbs 23:7 says, “As he thinks in his heart, so is he.” Hebrews 4:12 talks about the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The Bible says "Follow God, not your Heart"

The heart is the locus of physical and spiritual being, and represents the "central wisdom of feeling as opposed to the head-wisdom of reason" (Cooper, 82). It is compassion and understanding, life-giving and complex. It is a symbol for love. Often known as the seat of emotions, the heart is synonymous with affection.
The trick to making decisions from the heart is to shift your focus before you act. Preoccupy the mind with something other than worry about the question. Distract it with experiences of love, gratitude and peace. If you're in a situation that worries or upsets you, this may be difficult at first.
Listening to your head may lead to more tangible success, but not following your heart increases your risk of regret, so if you want to lead a more satisfying life, follow your heart.
He wants our hearts in order to Exchange them
In exchange God offers us a heart that is clean, true, tender and warm. Notice he does not offer to patch up the old heart (2 Corinthians 5:17). If you have not done so, will you give Him your old heart and let Him give you His new one?

God is so rich in forgiveness and love that He will start softening your heart as soon as you ask Him in faith. However, the most important heart is the spiritual heart, which is found slightly to the right of the body's midline. This heart is only visible to dedicated spiritual seekers, whose path is to discover the True Self dwelling within.

While the mind is the content of who you are, your heart is your essence. Your true heart is not subject to chaos or limited by pain, fear and neuroses, but is joyful, creative and loving. Some believe the heart can be too uncertain and even misguided, but that is the head talking!
Salvation doesn't come from our good deeds or by doing anything special, it's a free gift from God just because He loves us so much. We need to turn away from our sins, believe that Jesus is God's Son and our Savior, and submit to Him as Lord of our lives. By doing so, we receive salvation and eternal life.
Don't follow your heart; follow Jesus. Note that Jesus did not say to his disciples, “Let not your hearts be troubled, just believe in your hearts.” He said, “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me” (John 14:1). “Don't follow your heart; follow Jesus.”
Do emotions come from the heart or brain?
Psychologists once maintained that emotions were purely mental expressions generated by the brain alone. We now know that this is not true — emotions have as much to do with the heart and body as they do with the brain. Yet these are some of the many things we put great importance on today. We focus on these elements—and others like them—at the expense of what God requires. What does God require from us? He wants us to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with him (Micah 6:8).
The Heart Condemns
The Bible agrees that God knows your heart. God said to Samuel that He sees not as man sees: “man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7 ).
Get active. Stay at a healthy weight. Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke. Control your cholesterol and blood pressure.
Proverbs 4:23 says we should guard our heart with all diligence because from out of it flows the issues of life. This scripture implies that whatever we allow to enter our hearts, if not examined and evaluated properly, will undoubtedly be expressed in our lives and our actions – in positive or negative ways.
“Keep thy heart with all diligence” Meaning:
You are to carefully weigh your heart at all times to ensure it remains pure. This calls for vigilance and allowing God to search your heart and show you if there is any evil in it. Through prayer and reading your Bible, you'll be able to keep a rein on your heart.
To guard means to protect and defend. Notice this is a very active word. You cannot passively guard something, or at least not very well. If you are to guard your mind, then you must be active and intentional in doing so. Here's another way to look at it- to guard means to let the good in and keep the bad out.
The message of this wise saying is that – when we are doing the right thing – we don't have to worry about something or someone sneaking up on us and messing things up. While God isn't mentioned, there's no question that He's the one who keeps things even.
